Behaviour
Arboreal, except coming down on ground once a week to urinate and defecate. Nocturnal and slow moving. Sloths spend most of their time resting and remaining motionless during the day. They conduct virtually their entire lives hanging upside down - eating, sleeping, mating and giving birth. Their limbs are long. The two fingers on each forefoot and the three toes on each hind foot are armed with large and strong hook-like claw. They use them to hook over and grasp the supporting bough. Single young is born and carried by mother for six to nine months.
