Bronze Statue of King George VI

The bronze statue, by famous British sculptor Gilbert Ledward, was erected in 1958 in commemoration of Hong Kong’s 100th anniversary (1841 – 1941). On the same spot once stood a statue of Sir Arthur Kennedy, the seventh Governor of Hong Kong, as a tribute to his achievements while in office (1872 – 1877). It was shipped to Japan and melted during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong (1941 – 1945).
