Chaulmoogra Tree is indigenous to Southeast Asia. It has been introduced to and cultivated in multiple places in China, including Guangdong, Hainan, Yunnan and Hong Kong.

The branches and branchlets are terete and hairless and will turn brown to dark brown when dried. While chaulmoogra oil derived from the kernels was once introduced as a treatment for leprosy, it is now rarely used due to its high poisonousness and unsatisfactory effects.

Over 100 years old, this historic tree has a height of 12 m, a crown spread of approximately 11 m and a DBH of 767 mm.
