Chinese Mahogany

Chinese Mahogany is a deciduous tree. It is found in East and Southeast Asia, stretching from North Korea to countries in the south such as Thailand and Indonesia.

An ideal ornamental tree for gardens and the roadside, Chinese Mahogany is common in Taiwan but not in Hong Kong. It has a strong resemblance to Tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima) in appearance, but the bark of the former is rough, while that of the latter is smoother. There is also a difference in the aroma of leaves between these two trees. Chinese Mahogany can be used for the making of furniture and craft as well as construction.

This tree has a height of 17 m, a DBH of approximately 858 mm and a crown extent of about 12 m.
